Alvin
Youngblood Hart--Gallows Pole
When listening to the young ALVIN YOUNGBLOOD HART, the
word authenticity comes to mind. In this offering of
"Gallows Pole" (or "Gallis Pole", as Leadbelly recorded
it), he gives voice to the condemned. His lament seems
to absorb its misery from centuries-old celtic
oppression and funnel it through the African-American
experience on this continent. Even now the gallows are
with us--as the thousands who viewed Saddam's end right
here on YouTube can attest. From FTN#34 in 1995.

Club Foot Orchestra
Buster
Keaton's classic "Sherlock Jr." is one of the silent movies
scored by CLUB FOOT ORCHESTRA . A
cd with the same title was released in 1995. The tunes
"Moonlight" and "In the Theater" from that cd previewed
on FTN#7 in 1994. Video of Club Foot Orchestra seems
hard to find!
Jim Cert on Fog Town Network
For
Czech singer JIM CERT (Frantisek
Horacek), the emotional territories of torment and rage,
despair and defiance have no borders. Hear him conduct
vocal forays all over this landscape. From FTN#2 in
1993.

Stephen Yerkey--"Maker's Mark"
STEPHEN YERKEY's
style is for some like hard liquor--an acquired taste.
We at Fog Town Network were delighted to become aware of
him in San Francisco and eager to share his music with a
wider audience. This song is from FTN#34 in 1995.
DAVID PHILLIPS is on

Me Jane--"Trouble Man"
"...I
didn't make it, baby, playin' by the rules." San Francisco
singer JANE HARDAWAY and
guitar maestro MICHAEAL ROSS excel
in this cover of Marvin Gaye's great tune. This aired on
FTN#34. The old Folsom St. studio was rockin' that day
in 1995. Chris Kee, bass. Robin Roth, drums. Chris
Barnett, guitar & mandolin.

Cake
CAKE: A
studio recording of "Jolene" performed on Fog Town
Network in 1994 several months before it was released on
CD. (Or was it cassette tape back then?) I'm happy to
see on other YouTube videos that they're still rockin'

Connie
Champagne
CONNIE CHAMPAGNE:
Connie's version of "Ruby's Arms" by Tom Waits is a gem.
Everyone in the studio was transfixed during this live
performance on FTN#15 in 1994--adoring fans, busy crew
members, and cynical comic actors alike. With a tender
accompaniment by JOSHUA RAOUL BRODY,
Connie bares her soul, touches your heart, and
demonstrates why she is a San Francisco treasure.
